Description: A deciduous shrub, compact, narrow and upright growth. Dark burgundy-red flowers in late spring, and again in midsummer, that retain their dark colour until they drop
Uses: Grow as a specimen in an island bed
Climate/Position: Grow in a position sheltered from strong winds, in sun, or dappled shade
Height/Spread: Height to 3 metres by 150cm
Soil Requirements: Any well drained fertile soil, avoid shallow soils over chalk
Pruning: Little or no pruning is required, if any pruning is needed this should be done between midsummer and early autumn to avoid sap bleed
Special Requirements: Avoid planting in a frost pocket as the flowers will open brown
Additional Interest: Young flowers can be pickled and used in salads
